Manchester United loanees James Garner and Di’Shon Bernard came up against one and other in the Championship.
The clash between Nottingham Forest and Hull City at the City Ground was one of six Championship matches to go ahead this weekend.
The Tigers took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Keane Lewis-Potter, but two second half goals via a Lewis Grabban penalty and Brennan Johnson ensured Forest maintained their imperious run of form, with a 2-1 victory.
Garner started and finished his fifth straight Championship match for Steve Cooper’s side, who made it three wins in a row.
Forest moved up to seventh in the Championship and extended their record of just one defeat in 15 games under Cooper. Grant McCann’s Hull side remain 19th in the table.
Garner and Bernard won four tackles apiece in yesterday’s clash, no player from either side won more, according to WhoScored.
Between the Manchester United academy graduates, the pair have made 37 appearances, 31 of which have been starts, so far this season.
Bernard has established himself as a regular in McCann’s side and has thrived in his debut season at Championship level, following his loan spell at League Two outfit Salford City last season.
After a period of being in and out of the Forest side, Garner has reclaimed his place in Cooper’s starting line-up.
With both sides halfway through their 46 league games, it looks like Garner and Bernard will have different targets going into the second half of the campaign.
Garner will be hoping to play an integral part in Forest’s potential promotion bid and Bernard will be hoping to guide Hull to Championship safety.
