Man Utd wonderkid Jacob Devaney is in dreamland after capping off an immense breakout season with a special landmark for his country.

Not many youngsters at Man Utd have enjoyed such a meteoric rise this season as Jacob Devaney.

Starting the season as part of the U18s setup, Devaney impressed as a leader of men before earning himself a challenging loan move to St Mirren.

After flourishing in Scotland and preserving the side’s first-division status, he’s now taken the next step for his country as well.

Jacob Devaney’s leadership credentials recognised by Ireland

Devaney has always stood out as a leader at the academy level, and the way he earned praise from his teammates and coaches in Scotland proved his elite mentality.

It was only a matter of time before more recognition came calling, and the latest one will be his proudest one yet.

Devaney captained his country for the first time on June 9, when he wore the armband for Ireland U21s in their game against Qatar.

The game was a frustrating goalless draw where Ireland dominated the ball but couldn’t score, but Devaney will remember it as a landmark moment in his career that is sure to have many more.

Devaney had the chance to win the game as well, as he headed over one free-kick just over the bar with 15 minutes left to play, but this game was about more than just the result.

The Man Utd wonderkid will hope that this is just the first of many captaincy opportunities, and the senior team comes calling soon.

Devaney reacts to international landmark

Devaney celebrated the occasion with a message on Instagram, writing, “Great way to end the season and incredibly proud to captain my country for the first time.”

Many of his Utd teammates reacted and congratulated him, with comments from Fletcher twins, Jim Thwaites, and more.

It is indeed a great way to end the season, as he has shot up the ranks as a potential breakout at Carrington.

His stock is as high as it has ever been, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him travel for the pre-season with the senior team.

Due to his elite mentality, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him impress Carrick and force his way into the first-team plans next season.

He’ll do so as someone who’s already captained his country at the age group level.
