Jacob Devaney has been an instant success story for Manchester United on loan in Scotland at St Mirren, and this continued on Wednesday night against Kilmarnock.
It was a dramatic outing in the Scottish Premiership, with Joe Hugill’s Kilmarnock side picking up the win 4-3 on the night.
This was Jacob Devaney’s first defeat at St Mirren, having started so well last week.
Devaney was absolutely excellent on his debut, shining for St Mirren against league leaders Hearts.

The Manchester United youngster is considered among the finest in the ranks for the club, and Devaney has already been proving it as he makes his first appearances in professional football.
Devaney started against Kilmarnock and played the entirety of the 4-3 defeat.

There was a lot to like from Devaney’s performance as he completed 86% of his passes and created two chances for his teammates.
Devaney played nine passes into the final third with 47 touches, while he dictated play with five long passes. Defensively, he won three of six duels and completed two recoveries and one tackle.
However, the most intriguing thing was that St Mirren have already entrusted 18-year-old Devaney with their set-pieces, which is a glowing endorsement of how they value his creativity at the moment.
For the club to immediately put a young loanee on these is a big sign of his quality.

Speaking after his debut, Devaney explained his desire to play for United one day, and right now, his loan at St Mirren is proving that this is possible.
United will be thrilled with his quick start for the Scottish side, settling in well and looking like a key player.
Devaney has everything a midfielder needs in the modern game, and if he develops as he looks capable of, then he could be a very good midfielder.
This is only step one in his professional career, and already the signs indicate he will be a top player.
