Bryan Mbeumo has set out his stance on one key Manchester United first-team player after the Premier League club’s defeat to Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
The 26-year-old ex-Brentford star started for Manchester United and played the full 90 minutes against the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium on the weekend.
But Bryan Mbeumo’s homecoming at the Premier League club ended on a sour note after United lost 3-1 to Brentford, despite the player receiving a warm reception.
The ex-Brentford winger did not score or pick up an assist against his former side, but Mbeumo did earn United a penalty against Brentford in the second half.
Mbeumo was brought down by Brentford defender Nathan Collins when United were trailing 2-1 and Bruno Fernandes stepped up for the Red Devils’ subsequent penalty.

Bryan Mbeumo explains to his Man Utd teammates what needs to happen with Bruno Fernandes after the Brentford defeat
Bruno Fernandes saw his spot-kick effort saved after a lengthy wait time to take the penalty following VAR reviewing the yellow card that Nathan Collins received.
VAR did not overturn Nathan Collins’ booking to a red card and Brentford would later ensure their victory after Mathias Jensen netted for the Bees in injury time.
Speaking after Brentford’s result at the Gtech Community Stadium, Bryan Mbeumo insisted that Manchester United must now support Fernandes amid his struggles.
“It’s important to support him because this is what he’s doing every time,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think it’s normal for us to carry him as well sometimes because he gives us a lot, and it’s good for him to have us as well.”
What has happened to Bruno Fernandes at Man Utd in the 2025-26 Premier League season under Ruben Amorim?
Fernandes’ struggles at Old Trafford have increased tenfold after Ruben Amorim’s position change for the 31-year-old United captain in the manager’s tactical system.
The Portugal international has been deployed in a deeper midfield role and has been Amorim’s main pick for the two-man United pivot alongside Casemiro this season.
Fernandes has thrived in an advanced position, both for United and Portugal, and the midfielder is unable to influence play for the Red Devils from a deeper role.
The United skipper’s position change has come after a summer spending spree that saw the arrival of Mbeumo from Brentford and Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Fernandes’ role in the midfield pivot has also had a knock-on effect for Kobbie Mainoo, who has lost his place in the starting XI under United manager Amorim.
