Ineos reminded of ridiculous £15m Man United snub as striker scores four goals in 10/10 display

Scoring goals has become an issue for Manchester United this season following a lack of recruitment.

Ruben Amorim will have to see out the season with a depleted attacking department low on confidence at Manchester United.

Following Amad Diallo’s season-ending injury, Amorim is left with just Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes as natural attacking options.

United’s attacking options shrunk over the January transfer window with Marcus Rashford joining Aston Villa on loan while Antony made the move to Real Betis.

Out of necessity, Chido Obi has made his senior debut for United to provide some extra firepower from the bench. But four goals in the last five Premier League games tells a story of a misfiring front line.

Ineos snubbed £15m Serhou Guirassy move

In the summer, United felt they addressed their lack of depth up front with the £36m move for Joshua Zirkzee.

But Amorim feels Zirkzee is not a striker, and with Hojlund low on confidence with only two Premier League goals to his name this season, Ineos may regret not dipping into the market for a new striker.

Amorim wanted to sign a striker in January, but realistically United should have strengthened up front in the summer when more targets where available. Targets such as Serhou Guirassy.

United could have signed Guirassy in the summer, but according to The Athletic, Ineos felt his £15m release clause was too expensive for a player who had only enjoyed one good season.

The club hierarchy will look back on that decision with regret, as Guirassy is now the Champions League top scorer and has scored 23 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund.

Serhou Guirassy reminds Ineos of mistake with four-goal display

If Ineos weren’t already aware that they missed out on a gem, Guirassy reminded them this weekend by putting on a masterclass performance for Dortmund.

The Bundesliga giants won 6-0 against Union Berlin with Guirassy scoring four of the goals – three of which came in an eight-minute blitz in the second half.

Guirassy unsurprisingly starred in WhoScored’s latest Bundesliga Team of the Week after picking up a flawless 10.00 rating.

Guirassy only took 32 touches of the ball, but eight of those were shots – and half went in. It is that kind of clinical finishing that Amorim is currently crying out for at United.

United are missing too many big chances and are lacking a senior striker who can lead confidently from the front. Ineos will look to sign a player of that profile in the summer, but they missed out on a £15m bargain.
