Amorim was axed as United manager after his post-match press conference on Sunday, with the 40-year-old Portuguese coach criticising the club’s management.
Darren Fletcher will lead the Red Devils to their next Premier League match on Wednesday evening, with United visiting Turf Moor to face Burnley.
However, the 41-year-old former Scotland and Red Devils midfielder’s time in charge at Old Trafford is believed to be temporary after Amorim was dismissed from United.

Manchester United are expected to appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the 2025-26 Premier League season, with Darren Fletcher stepping in for the short term.
Michael Carrick previously served as United caretaker manager in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked and ahead of Ralf Rangnick’s interim appointment.
Speaking on the Premier League Productions’ Fanzone, Michael Owen said: “I guess there’s no real standouts.
“I would say the likes of Darren Fletcher [are] obviously going to take immediate control.
“Maybe a Michael Carrick could be in the equation. Certainly, until the end of the season. Who knows?”

Outside of his endorsement for United legend Michael Carrick, Owen still believes that the vacant United manager role will be getting eyed up in the future.
“There will be a few managers that Manchester United have got their eyes on that are still in a job at the moment. So, it might be a little bit tricky,” he added.
“There’s [sic] some great managers in the Premier League that potentially could justify managing up.
“You know, I’m looking at managers of Fulham, of Bournemouth, of Crystal Palace.
“Maybe those types of managers could be earmarked.”

Michael Carrick has been out of management since last summer after he was axed from his first full head coach role in football at Championship side Middlesbrough.
Owen has said that his former United and England teammate would be the right person to bring in as a short-term replacement for Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

“And then you’ve got people out of work,” he explained.
“We all know that [Sir] Gareth Southgate is close friends of [Sir] Jim Ratcliffe. And then we’ve got people from outside. I mean [Roberto] De Zerbi has got a huge reputation.
“[Mauricio] Pochettino, Manchester United have always looked at him, but surely he’s not going to leave before managing the home nation in a World Cup.
“So, there’s [sic] lots of names out there that could be linked. Immediately, I would say somebody like Michael Carrick could be a good choice.”
Carrick previously served in the United coaching staff under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and was retained under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils reign as well.
