Matheus Cunha is close to becoming Manchester United’s first major signing of the summer transfer window.
Following Manchester United’s worst-ever finish in the Premier League, there is huge pressure on Ineos to overhaul Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer.
United’s owners have wasted no time getting started with the transfer business, with Matheus Cunha set to join for £62.5m this summer.
Cunha is expected to sign a five-year contract with United after Ineos made it clear they are willing to trigger the Brazilian’s release clause.

Matheus Cunha is perfect for Ruben Amorim’s tactics
Since arriving at Old Trafford, Amorim has stubbornly stuck to his tactics even while facing intense criticism.
Changing to a 3-4-2-1 formation mid-season came with growing pains, but Amorim has spotted improvements towards the end of the season.
This summer, the focus will be on signing players that slot into Amorim’s system, and signing Matheus Cunha is a great start.
This season, Cunha has thrived in a No.10 position in a very similar tactical setup, and he has previously spoken about how much he enjoys playing just behind a central striker.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Cunha said: “This is crazy for me. I never thought I could dribble like this.
“They put me in this position and I love it, to play between 10 and nine, behind the forward. I touch the ball more and have more guys to pass to.”
Where Matheus Cunha will fit into Man United’s XI in 25/26
Cunha will likely be one of several attacking signings United make this summer. With Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho expected to leave – Ineos need to find suitable replacements.
Amorim will stick to his 3-4-2-1 style of play and Cunha has proven that he can not only play in the system, but thrive playing it in the Premier League.

Not only can Cunha strengthen United in the No.10 position, but he has also played several games for Wolves up front as a lone striker.
United are expected to sign a centre-forward, but Cunha can also be a back-up option up front for United.
