How Manchester United feel about Joshua Zirkzee amid Matheus Cunha transfer news

Joshua Zirkzee’s first season at Manchester United ended prematurely due to injury, but the Netherlands international has done enough to impress his coaches.

A big summer awaits Ruben Amorim as Manchester United head coach as he will be trying to improve his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

The biggest priority in the transfer window will be selling players to raise funds for new signings.

It is goals which has been United’s biggest problem as Bruno Fernandes tops the goalscoring charts. That alone will raise question marks about the strikers in the squad – Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee – and it says a lot that the club are plotting moves for forwards.

United are considering both Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha, while it has also been suggested that Bryan Mbeumo could become an option for the Red Devils.

That would suggest United want forwards with experience in the Premier League.

Manchester United stance on Joshua Zirkzee future

In terms of goals, Zirkzee fell short of double figures in his first season at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old scored seven goals and registered three assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

It is understood that United coaches love the way Zirkzee has buckled down after a tough start at the club, and they feel he can contribute to Amorim’s team next season when fully fit.

In a conversation with United in Focus, Graeme Bailey explains that United are planning to keep Zirkzee, even though he has attracted interest from elsewhere.

“So – we can say as it stands United are planning to keep him, he does still have interest but it is believed they feel that Zirkzee has a lot to offer, in terms of versatility etc.”

Meanwhile, United are hoping to offload other attacking players, such as loanee duo Antony and Marcus Rashford.

Ineos will attempt to strengthen the squad with the funds raised from player sales.

Joshua Zirkzee future not under threat by Matheus Cunha

Wolves striker Matheus Cunha is set to leave Molineux this summer.

Reports suggest United have held positive talks over Cunha, with Amorim targeting a new No.10 suitable to his 3-4-2-1 system.

Wolves will accept instalments for Cunha’s £62.5m fee but it remains to be seen how much money United will have to spend in the summer, with more money guaranteed if they can go all the way in the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.

Cunha played at Old Trafford on Sunday as Wolves beat United 1-0 in the Premier League. The Brazilian assisted the only goal when he won a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Only time will tell if Cunha joins Zirkzee in United’s first-team squad.
