Alejandro Garnacho was handed his first start for Chelsea since joining the Blues from Manchester United in the summer.

Once hailed as one of Carrington’s most exciting graduates, Alejandro Garnacho’s Manchester United career came crashing to a disappointing end this summer.

Garnacho’s comments after the Europa League final marked the beginning of the end, and he was inevitably included in Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ this summer.

After a lengthy transfer saga, Garnacho completed a £40m move to Chelsea, but his start with the London outfit has been quiet.

Last week, Garnacho was booed by United fans on his return to Old Trafford and he was denied any minutes against his former club.

Alejandro Garnacho’s stats on his first Chelsea start

Before Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Lincoln City, Garnacho had only played 33 minutes of football for Chelsea in two substitute appearances.

The Argentine forward was finally named in the starting lineup against the League One side, but his performance lasted just under one hour before being taken off by Enzo Maresca.

Stats provided by Sofascore paint a picture of how he performed on his first start.

In his 59-minute cameo, Garnacho boasted a flawless pass success rate and created one big chance. However, he is still yet to score or assist for his new side.

At United, Garnacho’s dribbling was an issue, and he failed to complete a single dribble against Lincoln.

Alejandro Garnacho struggling to impress at Chelsea

So far, Garnacho has hardly set the world alight at Chelsea. United fans made it known last weekend that the way he left the club was not appreciated, and it seems he’s struggling to settle in London.

It has been a frustrating trend at United that players have often left the club and thrived, but so far Garnacho has not followed that pattern.

With matches coming up against Brighton, Benfica and Liverpool, Garnacho will hope to get more starts and regular game time, but Chelsea have a deep squad with plenty of competition for wide spots.

Ironically, Garnacho complained about being dropped for the Europa League final, but it seems he might have to settle for a spot on the bench this season.
