Alejandro Garnacho burned bridges at Manchester United this summer as he completed a permanent move to Chelsea.

Last season, Alejandro Garnacho criticised Ruben Amorim moments after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

It marked the beginning of the end for his Manchester United career, with reports suggesting that Amorim told Garnacho to ‘pray’ he can find a new club.

After being put in Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ over the summer, Garnacho joined Chelsea for £40m, but his start in London has been underwhelming.

On his return to Old Trafford, Garnacho was booed by United fans, and he failed to play a single minute as Chelsea lost 2-1 to United.

Despite Enzo Maresca saying Garnacho was ready to start, he is finding it difficult to work his way into the starting XI at his new club, and that is harming his chances of playing for Argentina.

According to DirectTVsports, Garnacho recently made direct contact with Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni to ask about his situation with the national team.

Scaloni’s response was that Garnacho’s selection will “depend on his performances” this season, but that he is “currently behind in the rankings”.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Garnacho is running out of time to prove himself worthy of being part of Argentina’s squad.

Garnacho’s move to Chelsea means he is competing with the likes of Estevao, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Cole Palmer for a starting spot, and currently he is struggling to find his way into Maresca’s plans.

Ironically, Garnacho’s United career came crashing down after he questioned Amorim’s decision not to start him in the final – now he finds himself on the bench regularly.

At United, Garnacho was a regular starter with 58 appearances in all competitions last season. This season, he has played 33 minutes for Chelsea.

Argentina are looking to defend their World Cup trophy in the summer and Garnacho will be desperate to be involved, but by pushing for an exit this summer, he might have ruined his chances of being involved.
