Harry Maguire has insisted that Manchester United players have a “huge responsibility” both “on and off the pitch” at the Premier League club.

The 31-year-old Manchester United defender has sparked a revival in form since he was stripped of the club captaincy under former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag.

Harry Maguire remained at Old Trafford after Bruno Fernandes succeeded him as United captain and fought for his place in the Red Devils starting XI.

The former United captain featured regularly under Erik ten Hag before the ex-Ajax and Red Devils head coach was axed from the Premier League club in 2024.

Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford last November and the 40-year-old United manager permanently succeeded Ten Hag in the Red Devils dugout.

Maguire has remained a key defensive figure at the Premier League club and the England star superbly performed as part of Ruben Amorim’s tactical system.

Amorim wasted no time implementing a three-man backline at United and Maguire has often been deployed as the central defender for the Red Devils.

Man Utd star Maguire drops huge praise

Harry Maguire has made 22 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils this season, with the Manchester United centre-back netting once for his side.

The Three Lions international was out of contract with United in the summer, but the Red Devils triggered the extension in Maguire’s deal.

Maguire is now under contract with United until 2026 and the former Leicester City defender is an important part of Ruben Amorim’s plans at the Red Devils.

Speaking to Inside United, the England and United defender has admitted that Amorim has been a “really demanding” figure since his arrival from Sporting CP.

“I’ve been really impressed, I must say, ever since he’s walked through the door,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“He’s really demanding. He’s tactically very good. He knows exactly what he wants from his team and his players.

“At the moment, we are still going through that little bit of a transition period wherein some moments of the games, we haven’t been good enough, but us players have got to take responsibility for that. We’ve all got to up our performances.

“To play for this club, you’ve got a huge responsibility on and off the pitch and at the moment on the pitch us players aren’t doing enough.”

Maguire on Amorim at Man Utd

Amorim has become the sixth permanent manager at United since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson called it time on his Old Trafford reign in 2013.

The United manager inked a contract with the Premier League club until June 2027 and Amorim faces a tough task in putting the Red Devils back on the right path.

Maguire admitted that Amorim “demands a lot” from his players and the training sessions under the Portuguese coach can be “really fun” and “really intense.”

“He’s great. He’s a great man-manager, tactically really good,” he said.

“The training sessions are really fun but really intense. And he demands a lot.

“So, we as players have full faith and full belief that he and his coaching team will turn things around, but us players – like I said – have got to take responsibility in making sure that that happens.”
