Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been on both sides of some controversial VAR decisions.
Last season, Harry Maguire scored a dramatic winner against Leicester City in the FA Cup, but replays showed that it was in fact offside.
There was no VAR in use that day, although the FA Cup introduced new VAR rules after Maguire’s controversial goal.

But there are also plenty of decisions that have gone against the former United captain. Back in 2021, Maguire hit out at VAR decisions and the way that Jurgen Klopp’s comments appeared to influence referees.
When asked about his thoughts on VAR, Maguire’s answer was clear.

Current VAR rules allow officials to recommend on-field reviews for incidents such as goals, red cards, penalties and cases of mistaken identity.
As quoted by Metro Sport, Maguire spoke on A League Of Their Own about the changes he would make.

“I’d get rid of it all except for goal line technology and offsides, they are factual.”
The Premier League introduced semi-automated offsides at the end of last season, with United’s Premier League clash against Newcastle in April the first to include the new technology.
Man United negatively impacted by VAR
Every team in the Premier League has had moments where VAR has benefited them or gone against them, although every fanbase will argue it’s the latter.
But according to ESPN, United had more decisions go against them than for them in the 2024/25 campaign.

There were zero incidents across the whole season where a VAR intervention led to a goal for United, while there were two decisions overturned to allow goals against and three interventions to disallow a United goal.
It includes a controversial De Ligt handball decision against Liverpool, and Amad Diallo’s last-minute goal against Fulham being disallowed.
