Harry Maguire excited by Edinson Cavani’s early impact

Edinson Cavani scored his first Manchester United goal against Everton at the weekend in a 3-1 win.

The Uruguayan came off the bench at Goodison Park and netted the third goal to seal the three points.

While Cavani is yet to start a game for United, this was an indication of what he is capable of.

Teammate and club captain Harry Maguire said he was pleased to see the new signing make a telling contribution.

Maguire told the club website that Cavani has shown what he can do already in training and that it is pleasing to see him make a difference when it counts.

Maguire said: “It’s great to see Cavani come on. He worked tirelessly up there and did the dirty work and he got his rewards right at the end. I think he’s going to be a big player for us, he’s going to score goals.

“He knows where the back of the net is and I’ve seen that in training a few times already. He’s just getting up to speed in terms of his training and workrate but he’s going to be a big player for us.“

Cavani only needed one chance against Everton. He feinted to shoot one way, tricking Jordan Pickford before sweeping the ball in at the near post.

Long haul flights ahead

The striker is now heading off on international duty, after missing Uruguay’s October matches.

The Xinhua news agency reported Cavani has been named in the Uruguay squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Colombia and Brazil.

These may impact Cavani upon his return, with the long haul flight unhelpful where United are concerned.

United will be hoping Cavani is ready to feature after the break when United host West Bromwich Albion in the first Premier League match back.
