Harry Maguire missed a dramatic late chance to win the game for Manchester United against Liverpool.
Manchester United blew a glorious chance to win away at Liverpool with Harry Maguire blazing an injury-time chance over the bar.
Joshua Zirkzee’s decision to pass the ball to Maguire instead of shoot was backed by Ruben Amorim – even if Maguire could not convert the chance.
Manchester United still left Anfield with a positive result, a 2-2 draw, making it two years in a row Liverpool have failed to beat us at home.

Harry Maguire speaks out
Harry Maguire looked crestfallen to miss the late opportunity to score and become a hero, his face at the end said it all.
Maguire waited until the following day to comment, and express his feelings following the draw.
The Manchester United centre-back tried to stay upbeat, focusing on the creditable result for the team, rather than the missed opportunity.
Maguire posted to Instagram: “Much better performance – Time to build on this now.”
The defender’s messaging reflected that of captain Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, who both spoke after the game about turning this type of performance in on a consistent basis.
United had lost four consecutive matches leading up to this game, and a draw was the least we deserved.
Maguire earning his role
Despite the continued strong progress from young centre-back Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire clearly has a part to play under Ruben Amorim.
United have triggered the one-year extension in Maguire’s contract, tying up his future until June 2026.
In the lead-up to the Liverpool tie, former star Patrice Evra even demanded Maguire be given back the captaincy.
Irrespective of his missed opportunity late in the game, Maguire’s performance was excellent, and he deserves credit.
