Man Utd ace had his star-making moment with what happened in the 89th minute vs Liverpool

Manchester United tore the pre-game predictions book, earning a well-deserved draw vs Liverpool at Anfield that could have been much more.

Harry Maguire missed the chance to seal an iconic win with effectively the last kick of the game, shooting over from Joshua Zirkzee’s well-timed pass.

Amad and Lisandro Martinez were the goalscorers, while Manuel Ugarte was a star vs Liverpool, joined by Noussair Mazraoui, who shone too.

It was a game where many players showed their true level, leaving Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Amorim upset as to why they didn’t do it regularly.

One player who has done it semi-regularly, however, was at his monstrous best here and might have had his star-making moment against Liverpool.

Leny Yoro makes good on generational claim

The score is 2-2 and neither team is settling for a draw as the game descends into breathless, end-to-end stuff with both teams throwing punches at each other.

United get a corner from which Bruno Fernandes tests Alisson at his near post. From the resulting corner, Liverpool fly forward on a transition.

With United outnumbered and running back towards their own goal, their achilles under Erik ten Hag, Mohamed Salah found Darwin Nunez in space in the box.

Nunez would have seen glory in front of his eyes, a chance to score the winner at the Kop end to seal a remarkable victory against their fierce rivals.

However, 19-year-old Leny Yoro, playing his first game against Liverpool as a United player, only coming on in the 83rd minute, had a different script in mind.

In a position where defenders even think twice before breathing on an attacker, Yoro went full tilt into a sliding tackle and with a reach that would have made Aaron Wan-Bissaka proud, cleanly won the ball right from Nunez’s feet.

Jota’s shot from the resulting clearance was saved by Onana and it left United in a position where Maguire could have won it for them with the last kick of the game.

Yoro had arrived at the big stage and announced it with aplomb.

Ruben Amorim handling Yoro perfectly

Ruben Amorim has been insistent that they need to handle Yoro’s development carefully, especially coming back from injury.

He has handled it perfectly so far, giving him the odd start here and there while whetting his appetite for marquee games with substitutions like these.

Defense is the most difficult place for a youngster to get introduced into because a single error can throw the spotlight squarely on you, regardless of age or experience.

A striker who misses a chance will get another in a few minutes (Rasmus Hojlund might beg to differ!) but the defenders don’t have that luxury.

Yoro has also had to come into a new system, a struggling team which, by Amorim’s own admission, is starving for leaders on the pitch.

For the Frenchman to rise beyond all those factors and continue to contribute at a peak level despite his age and lack of experience means United have a generational talent on their hands.

In Amorim, they also have someone who’s handling him perfectly. The future is bright.
