‘Great prospect’… Alan Pardew is convinced Ineos’ key transfer solved immediate Man Utd problem

Alan Pardew has rated one of the Manchester United summer signings that Ineos brought through the doors at Old Trafford for Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.

Ruben Amorim inherited his Manchester United first-team squad during the 2024-25 Premier League season after Erik ten Hag was sacked as the Red Devils manager.

The 40-year-old United manager saw his first signings arrive at Old Trafford back in the January transfer window after Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu were landed.

However, Ineos splashed out more extensively in the summer transfer window and the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-backed regime acquired five new signings for Amorim.

Matheus Cunha signed in June and Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo in July, while Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens arrived in August and September respectively.

Alan Pardew asked about Man Utd signing Senne Lammens and what he has offered Ruben Amorim’s side

Manchester United were linked with the likes of Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma before landing Senne Lammens on deadline day in September.

Andre Onana was offloaded from Old Trafford to Super Lig side Trabzonspor on loan after the Red Devils completed their pursuit of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

United signed Lammens for an initial fee of £18.1m and the 23-year-old former Royal Antwerp shot-stopper has impressed between the sticks at the Red Devils.

Alan Pardew suggested that United still look vulnerable at the back this season, but he agreed that Lammens has added support to the defence under Ruben Amorim.

“Yeah, he has [shored up the defensive cracks] and he looks a great prospect,” he said on Sky Sports.

The former Newcastle and Crystal Palace manager added that United’s current summer signings are night and day better than their previous transfer windows.

“Definitely, the problem at Manchester United has been recruitment over the recent years,” he continued.

“You know, they’ve signed players who have not come to fruition, not been able to deal with the size of the shirt and the size of the club.”

Senne Lammens is Man Utd’s most important summer signing, despite all of the spotlight being on Bryan Mbeumo

Senne Lammens had to wait for his United debut against Sunderland in October after Amorim stuck with Altay Bayindir after the player’s arrival from Royal Antwerp.

However, the Belgian shot-stopper impressed in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford and has since established himself as the Red Devils’ new No 1.

Lammens has been a reassuring presence for United fans between the sticks after the howler-prone ways of Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana in recent seasons.

Bryan Mbeumo rightfully deserves praise for his impact at United, but Lammens is up there as the most important signing that the club have made in the summer.
