Ederson is set to join Manchester United next month from Atalanta for a fee of £34.5m and it looks increasingly like an excellent signing.
The promised midfield rebuild for Manchester United will kickstart with Ederson from Atalanta this summer.
United agreed a £34.5m transfer, with Ederson now expected to undergo his medical before the deal will become official in July.
The deal has left United fans divided despite a general acceptance that he is quite a smart addition to the squad growing as we learn more about him, with experts of Italian football endorsing Ederson.
Now, we look back on a prediction that his former boss at Atalanta made about him.

Now the Ederson deal is agreed… WHO SHOULD BE MAN UTD’S NEXT TARGET?
Let us know who should be signing number two…
Gian Piero Gasperini’s massive praise for Manchester United’s Ederson
At Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini is the manager who pushed Ederson to the elite talent he has become, and he previously predicted the Brazilian would play for an elite club.
The Athletic have now reported some comments that Gasperini said about Ederson back in 2024.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to coach a lot of very good players,” Gasperini said in a press conference following the Europa League final in 2024.
“In terms of physicality, regains and the timing of his runs, Ederson is definitely an extraordinary player, one cut out for teams at the very highest level.
“It surprises me he still doesn’t play for Brazil, even if he’s often been called up. But that’ll come.”
Now, Gasperini’s prediction will be put to the test with Ederson stepping up a few levels to play for United in the Champions League.
While he is sure to become a regular Brazil international now that he is playing on a higher stage, as this makes a lot of difference.
Who has been Man Utd’s BEST and WORST signing in the £31m-40m price range? How will Ederson compare?
Ederson will hope to be Brazil’s starting midfielder at the Copa America in 2028
Ederson is set to join United as the second arranged transfer of the summer transfer window, along with Colombian youngster Cristian Orozco who arrives in July once he turns 18.
Once at United, things may all line up a bit more for Ederson at an international level, which has been one of the biggest criticisms of him from those who aren’t fond of the signing.
Casemiro probably retires from international football after this World Cup, as might Fabinho, which could suddenly put Ederson in a position where he is the best partner for Bruno Guimaraes.
Ederson has been compared to Guimaraes, which is an exciting comparison for United fans, proving why he is such a good pick up for £34.5m.
Next season though it will be up to Ederson to prove that he is capable of this level and prove Gasperini correct.
