Gerard Pique has made his feelings perfectly clear on what he expects to see from Manchester United under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Ineos reign at Old Trafford.

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson brought Gerard Pique to Old Trafford in 2004 after the Spaniard left Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy.

Pique, who retired from football in 2022, spent four seasons at United under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and made 23 senior appearances for the Red Devils.

During his time at Old Trafford, the 37-year-old Spaniard lifted a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy and a League Cup with United.

However, Pique struggled to establish himself ahead of the preferred partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic and the former United star left the club in 2008.

The Barcelona legend returned to the Camp Nou and Pique enjoyed incredible success at the La Liga club, including lifting three Champions League titles.

Pique on Man Utd change

Manchester United underwent a massive shake-up behind the scenes at Old Trafford after the arrival of Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe as co-owner of the Red Devils.

Ratcliffe secured a minority stake in the Premier League club in 2023 and his Ineos team took control of football operations at Old Trafford as part of the deal.

The 71-year-old British billionaire has opened the door for several key figures to arrive at Old Trafford, including the appointment of Omar Berrada as chief executive at United.

Speaking to The Daily Express, Gerard Pique insisted that he is hopeful that Ratcliffe and Co can put the Premier League club back on the right path.

The 2010 World Cup winner admitted that United have been “a bit lost” in terms of managing the club and the future direction of the Red Devils.

“I think that Manchester United in the last few years are having a difficult time,” Pique said.

“I think that in terms of managing the club they are a bit lost and don’t know where to go. I hope that changes.”

Pique’s hopes for Man Utd

United have struggled to restore their place in English football since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford as Red Devils manager in 2013.

Ferguson engineered all 13 of United’s Premier League title wins, including the Red Devils’ last triumph at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Ratcliffe has made his intention clear to restore United’s prestige in English – and world – football and is keen to knock Manchester City and Liverpool “off their perch.”

Pique opened up about his love for United and his desire to see his former side once again challenge and win the Premier League title.

“It’s true that they have a very competitive league with important teams to play against every year life City, Liverpool, Chelsea and also Arsenal now,” he added.

“The competition is very strong but let’s see.

“For me, Manchester United is still the greatest club in the history [of] England, they have won so many Premier Leagues and I hope that they come back and win it again.”
