Gary Pallister has suggested that an unthinkable scenario for some Manchester United fans could still play out over one player in Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.
Ruben Amorim has seen both the highs and lows at Old Trafford since he left Sporting CP and arrived as the Manchester United manager last November.
The 40-year-old United head coach has seen the Red Devils struggle with their Premier League form, with his side languishing in 14th place in the table.
United’s hopes of securing European football for the 2025-26 season are hanging in the balance after their league results and recent setback in the FA Cup.
The Red Devils’ FA Cup title defence came to an end on Sunday after a defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford and United subsequently crashed out of the competition.
Amorim’s last opportunity to win major silverware in the 2024-25 season now relies on United’s progression through the Europa League knockout rounds.
United, who have not lifted the Europa League title since Jose Mourinho’s triumph in 2017, are set to face Real Sociedad in their first-leg last-16 tie on Thursday.

Pallister’s position on Man Utd star
Ruben Amorim made the big call to axe Marcus Rashford from his Manchester United first-team squad and the England star left Old Trafford last month.
United forward Marcus Rashford completed a sensational loan move to Premier League side Aston Villa before the January transfer window shut.
Aston Villa agreed to cover the large majority of the 27-year-old United loanee’s wages and the Premier League club did not pay a loan fee for Rashford.
United also included the option for Villa to buy Rashford, who is on loan at Villa Park until the end of the campaign, for a £40m transfer fee.
Speaking to The Peoples Person, Gary Pallister was asked if Rashford could play again for United and the Red Devils legend insisted it was “not an impossible thing.”
The 59-year-old former United and England defender added: “If he proves himself.
“He’s got his hunger back at Villa, then maybe there’s a future for him still at Man United.”
Rashford’s new start at Villa
Ruben Amorim had made the major decision to drop Marcus Rashford for United’s sensational 2-1 comeback win against Manchester City at the Etihad last December.
The United manager had left the door open for Rashford to fight for his place and claimed that he wanted to see more from the player on the pitch.
Rashford instead admitted that he could see his future away from Old Trafford and the United and England player made his exit from the Red Devils.
The Villa player’s form fell off a cliff at Old Trafford in the 2023-24 campaign and Rashford’s struggles at United continued over to the current season.
Rashford has made six appearances for Villa across all competitions since his loan move and the United star has picked up three assists for his current side.
