Gary Neville says pressure of Manchester United is bringing top star down

Gary Neville has admitted he is worried about one Manchester United star in particular as his season continues to spiral.

Marcus Rashford has had a torrid time of things for Manchester United this season with just four Premier League goals to his name this campaign and now issues are emerging about his behaviour off the football pitch.

Rashford was reportedly spotted in a Belfast nightclub last week, the night before United had a training session at Carrington and then missed the session due to ‘illness’.

He missed the 4-2 victory over Newport County at Rodney Parade and Erik ten Hag confirmed he would ‘deal with‘ the matter and now that Rashford has apologised, he has been reinstated into the first team.

Neville on Rashford

Despite this, Gary Neville, speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, has given his verdict on the Rashford situation and has admitted he is worried about his behaviour.

“I’m a little bit worried about him,” Neville admitted. “I think someone who has been so peaceful and quiet as he has over the past seven or eight years, or in fact perfect with his behaviour for the past 10 years or so, these last three or fours months have concerned me.

“I’ve been thinking ‘is he alright?’ or ‘has something happened to him that we don’t know about’. It’s either one of two things, he’s either struggling or has the mantra of ‘I don’t give a ___”.

Roy Keane agreed with Neville and said: “I don’t think he’s a nasty or bad lad at all, it (his behaviour) doesn’t help due to the pressure of United.”

Key months ahead for Rashford

With a new regime at Old Trafford on the horizon, and one that has promised to put sporting performance above commercial success, Rashford may have a key few months.

The Englishman netted 30 goals for the Red Devils last season but the 26-year-old has had another inconsistent campaign which was the case in the 2021-2022 season.

The next few months could be key for Rashford not just to get his season back on track but also to cement his place in the starting 11 as Alejandro Garnacho is continuing to impress week after week.
