Erik ten Hag has given his response to the Marcus Rashford situation which has dominated the headlines at Old Trafford.

Manchester United picked up a crucial 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup at Rodney Parade and advanced through to the fifth round of the competition.

Despite the Red Devils picking up a victory in Wales, the performance from United was certainly far from smooth sailing with Newport scoring twice to draw the game level in the second half.

However, the one aspect of the club that has dominated the headlines has been Marcus Rashford’s alleged late-night actions and the ‘illness’ that has kept him out of the first team.

Ten Hag’s response

Speaking in the aftermath of the Red Devils’ vital win in Wales, the Dutchman was quizzed on the Englishman’s struggles and how the former Ajax boss would be dealing with the academy graduate.

As per the Manchester Evening News, when the Dutchman was pressed for a comment on the Rashford situation, he said: “In what sense? So he reported ill, for the rest it’s an internal matter, I deal with it. As I said, it’s an internal matter.

“For you (it raises more questions than answers), but not for me. It’s an internal matter, I will deal with it.”

When the Dutchman was pushed on the dressing room culture at the club, he gave them short shrift: “I don’t go in this case, I’ve talked before about it. I think we played a good game and now we move on. We will deal with it, I will deal with it.”

Rashford drama latest in long line of issues

Since the start of the season, there has been scandal after scandal at Old Trafford and Rashford is now the latest player to be caught up in the drama.

Jadon Sancho, Antony, Mason Greenwood, Raphael Varane and now Rashford are just a selection of the players who have either had disciplinary issues or problems on the pitch.

Despite the criticism for Ten Hag being more than deserved, the Dutchman has had to deal with a whole host of issues off the field and deserves some leeway for what has been a tough few months.
