Gary Lineker picked out two Manchester United legends under Sir Alex Ferguson who are in the Premier League “debate” in one key role on the pitch.

Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed a stacked roster of Manchester United legends during his legendary 26-year reign at Old Trafford as Red Devils manager.

The 83-year-old Scotsman is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time after his impact with United in England and with Aberdeen in Scotland.

During his illustrious time in the Old Trafford dugout, Ferguson lifted 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups and four League Cups.

The iconic former United manager brought a whole host of star-studded talent to Old Trafford, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney.

Ferguson also built a reputation for giving youth a chance in his career and the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham thrived under him.

The legendary Scotsman bowed out of the Red Devils as United manager after leading the Premier League club to their last league title in 2013.

Lineker talks three Man Utd legends

Speaking to The Times, Match of the Day host Gary Lineker was asked who he felt was the best Premier League player of all time and he picked out Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo shot to superstardom during his time under Sir Alex Ferguson after Manchester United signed him from Sporting CP in 2003.

The 39-year-old Portuguese forward had a sensational impact on the Premier League in his first spell at United and Ronaldo made a real name for himself.

During his time under former United manager Ferguson, Ronaldo lifted three Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, an FA Cup and two League Cups.

“Well, that was probably [Cristiano] Ronaldo because of what he went on to do,” Lineker said.

Along with his praise for Ronaldo, Lineker said that United legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes are in the “debate” for the best Premier League midfielder of all time.

“But, gosh, so many great players,” he continued.

“You could have a debate just about midfielders and you’d go Gerrard and Scholes and Lampard and Keane and Vieira and so on and so forth.”

Ferguson’s praise for Man Utd legend Scholes

United legend Paul Scholes spent his entire legendary club playing career under Ferguson across his two spells at Old Trafford.

One of the ‘Class of ’92’ success stories, the 50-year-old former United star is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of all time.

Scholes lifted 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, three FA Cups and two League Cups during his remarkable time at United.

Speaking after Scholes’ initial retirement in 2011, Ferguson suggested that the ex-England international was one of United’s best players in the history of the club.

“To my mind, Scholes will go down as one of the greatest players of all time for Manchester United,” he said at the time.
