Manchester United enter the game with Galatasaray on a high after a headline-making victory over Everton at the weekend.

Sometimes there is more to a performance than just getting the three points. Look at Manchester United’s win over Luton, a functional display, yet one nobody wanted to re-watch in a hurry, even Red Devils supporters. Take the win and move on.

Then there are the type of games like the weekend’s win over Everton, where the end result of three points is the same, but the style of victory is totally different. Now that is the type of match you can re-watch, and even if you were less inclined to, you won’t be able to avoid the replays of Alejandro Garnacho’s spectacular goal.

This was the type of goal that generated international attention, huge praise in Garnacho’s native Argentina, and was also a topic of conversation at Galatasaray’s pre-match press conference.

Fernando Muslera praises Alejandro Garnacho

Galatasaray’s experienced goalkeeper Fernando Muslera joined manager Okan Buruk for their pre-match press conference, and he was asked about Garnacho’s wondergoal, and responded in a complimentary manner.

Muslera told their club media: “I think Garnacho’s goal is a candidate for Puskas.”

He is referring FIFA’s Puskas Award for the best goal scored around the world. Diogo Dalot recently joked he wants to be invited to the ceremony with Garnacho, after providing the assist.

Muslera focusing on Champions League showdown

Muslera did not want to spend too long discussing Garnacho’s incredible goal, turning the page to his team’s task of facing Manchester United tonight.

He said: “What excites me more is the match we will play against Manchester United with our fans.

“I describe our fans as 12 men. When you go there you will see the atmosphere.”

United will have to deal with the pressure brought by the excitable home crowd, and another early wondergoal would help a lot, in the same way Garnacho silenced the Everton fans at the weekend in just the third minute.

Those type of goals aren’t very repeatable of course, so we won’t be fussy about how the team does it, so long as they get the win.

In fact, a similar kind of dull, but functional performance which beat Luton 1-0 before the break, would be a very good result, which we would take right now.
