Gabriel Agbonlahor says Man Utd could be about to make a transfer decision he simply can’t understand

Manchester United’s hierarchy and Ruben Amorim have some key transfer decisions to make heading into 2026.

In the recent summer transfer window, Manchester United spent £232m on five signings to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Amorim hinted there would be a squad overhaul, and he made the ruthless decision to create a ‘bomb squad’ full of players he deemed excess to requirements.

It is only the start of a long-term project, though, and Amorim will have to continue making bold decisions to take the Red Devils back to the top of English football.

However, Gabby Agbonlahor has warned United away from making one decision.

Gabby Agbonlahor can’t understand Man United transfer stance

There are as many as nine players who could leave United in 2026 whether it is due to an expiring contract or because they could be put up for sale.

One of those in question is former captain Harry Maguire, whose contract is expiring next summer. As things stand, he is set to leave as a free agent.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor and Alan Brazil questioned why United would offload Maguire while keeping Casemiro on the books.

“Man United, they’re talking about players that are out of favour and who’s staying. It looks like they might let Harry (Maguire) go but keep Casemiro and I don’t get that,” Brazil said.

“That’s very odd,” Agbonlahor replied.

“Harry Maguire played on the weekend. Harry Maguire for me, he played on the weekend against Chelsea. He’s their best centre-half. I don’t understand that.”

Harry Maguire is earning a new contract at Man United

Maguire reached 250 United appearances after featuring in the 2-1 win over Chelsea, and his response to adversity throughout his career has made him a leader and a role model in the dressing room.

Despite being stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag, Maguire is in Amorim’s leadership group within United and remains a key figure in the squad.

United rejected interest in Maguire this summer, suggesting Amorim still values him in the squad. His contract is up at the end of the season, but it seems a new deal could be on the horizon.

The England international has impressed so far this season, including a standout performance in the Chelsea victory.

As for Casemiro, his contract is also up at the end of the season and it seems likely that he will move on in the summer.
