Fred has been called up by the Brazil national team for the first time since 2018.
The Selecao announced the call-up for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
This comes after two improved club seasons for Fred after a poor 2018/19 when he first joined United.
His form has begun to slide lately, giving away possession for goals conceded against Leicester in the cup, Roma, and recently Liverpool.
Despite this, Fred has been called into the squad and manager Tite explained why.

Tite told ESPN: “It’s because of his performances. The high level that he has been showing at United, a team that is runner-up in the Premier League.”
Fred posted on Instagram, commenting: “Immense joy for returning to represent my country. Always proud to be selected. Let’s go again.”
The qualifiers will take place on June 4 and 8. The Copa America will also take place later in the month and Fred will hope to be part of that squad.
This will mean he won’t get the rest he was in line to get, but he won’t mind, having missed out on three years worth of international football.
No place for Telles
Alex Telles has not been named among Brazil’s squad, having featured in the Autumn qualifiers.
This follows a lack of regular football for United since joining the club in 2020.
Missing out could enable him to rest up and gain an edge on Euro 2020-bound Luke Shaw for the start of next season.
That would be the smart approach on Telles’ part. But there is a chance he grows impatient and demands a move, without sticking around to fight for his place, and that would be a shame.
