Former Manchester United youngster Charlie McCann makes Rangers debut
Former Manchester United youngster Charlie McCann has made his debut for Rangers after leaving the Reds last summer.
The 19-year-old initially linked up with the B Team at Ibrox, having signed a three-year deal with the reigning Scottish champions in July last year.
After making the summer move, McCann gave an interview to his new club’s website where he said: “This is the best option for me to make that and hopefully push myself to get nearer the first team.”
His focus on securing first team football was a key factor behind the move to join the Glasgow giants.
And seven months into his brave decision to move up north, McCann has made his debut for the Europa League side.
The midfielder came on to play the last 20 minutes of yesterday’s 3-0 win at Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup.
He came to replace Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo against the lower league side.
After being given his debut by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, McCann spoke to RangersTV.
The Republic of Ireland man said: “I’m buzzing. Obviously I’ve worked hard for this moment, but I’ve got to appreciate what the boss has done.
“He’s gave us young lads chances and obviously it’s only the start, but it’s a great feeling to make your debut for this club.”
Keen to build on his debut and get more game time under van Bronckhorst, McCann said: “It’s crucial [to keep working hard]. I’ve got to kick on now and get more [minutes] and that’s what I want.
“But it’s great to get the first one [debut] out of the way and hopefully there will be more. But I’ve got to keep working hard.”
Charlie McCann’s former Manchester United academy teammates have reacted to the youngster making his Rangers debut.
