Forget Benjamin Sesko, 100 per cent Man Utd teammate was unsung hero for Darren Fletcher

Darren Fletcher’s maiden game as Manchester United manager ended in a 2-2 draw with relegation candidates Burnley, but the performance left lots to be excited about.

As promised, Darren Fletcher’s version of Manchester United saw a return to the four at the back shape, representing the end of Ruben Amorim’s back three.

Fletcher’s United were a vastly improved attacking side, creating plenty of chances, and only the woodwork stopping the Red Devils from securing an impressive win.

Benjamin Sesko was the star of the show for United, scoring both goals with two finishes that demonstrated why the club decided to spend £66m to sign him.

Meanwhile, Shea Lacey was inches from stardom as his incredible 85th-minute effort crashed into the crossbar.

But there was another player who boasted impressive contributions for United.

Diogo Dalot enjoys return to more natural right-back role

With the end of the 3-4-3 system comes the banishment of ‘wing-backs’ and the return of full-backs for Manchester United, a position that is a better fit for Diogo Dalot.

The Portugal international really struggled in the wing-back roles, regularly underperforming, and his days were numbered in this system.

But with the 4-2-3-1 likely to be used by any caretaker, Fletcher starting this against Burnley, and Dalot has a new lease on life.

While he won’t win the man of the match award, Dalot quietly had a flawless performance and deserves credit.

Does he suit being a full-back instead of wing-back?🤔

Dalot boasted a 100 per cent rate of winning duels, along with five clearances and six recoveries in an impressive defensive performance.

The 26-year-old also completed all of his dribbles, made three passes into the final third, and created a chance in a performance that is very solid for a full-back.

If Dalot played to this level every week as a right-back, whoever is the manager can have no complaints.

Diogo Dalot might be concerned by possible Ole Gunnar Solskjaer return

Dalot looked back to his best for Fletcher on Wednesday in his natural position, understanding the position much better than his grasp on wing-back.

However, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking the favourite to take charge until May, Dalot might actually be worried.

The system that the Norwegian plays would suit him; however, Solskjaer previously sent Dalot to AC Milan on loan, rating Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of him.

This may be a concern, with Noussair Mazraoui offering better defensive and technical qualities, which could see him be considered ahead of Dalot by the United legend if he is appointed.
