Forget Amad, ‘unreal’ Man Utd star’s impact went without credit, and he’s let himself down, Rio Ferdinand says

Manchester United star Amad has made his impact felt at the club in recent weeks, none more so than against Southampton.

Amad enjoyed one of the best moments of his career to date with a hat-trick at the Stretford End against Southampton, the first Manchester United player since Cristiano Ronaldo to score three goals in a game.

The Ivorian’s impact prompted widespread praise, digging United out of a hole against Southampton, coming back from 1-0 down to win 3-1.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes one of his teammates is not getting enough credit for his performance.

Andre Onana made a terrible mistake in the following game in Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton.

And this has led to heavy criticism of the Cameroon international, such is the life of a goalkeeper, after little praise after a handful of key saves against Southampton.

Ferdinand told his YouTube channel that Andre Onana‘s errors against Brighton must be placed in context of his heroics against Southampton.

He explained: “He’s had a couple of moments that you wouldn’t want to see on your clips. But look at the last game, he probably enabled us to win that game.

“People forget that. Amad got the hat-trick, but he made two unreal saves before that to actually keep us in the game.

“But goalkeepers live and die by big glaring mistakes. He needs to cut them mistakes out if he wants to continue.”

Andre Onana errors still unacceptable

Rio Ferdinand was right to say Andre Onana must cut out the errors if he wants to stay as goalkeeper, especially with a new manager in charge.

Onana let himself down against Brighton, and also did so in the defeat to Nottingham Forest a month ago.

Goalkeepers will make errors, and at a club like Manchester United they will be magnified.

But it is key to note Amorim has no ties to Onana, he was not the one who signed him, it was former boss Erik ten Hag.

If Amorim believes he can upgrade, don’t rule out a change in the summer, if Onana keeps on making errors, despite his positive moments.
