After falling behind, Manchester United came back to beat Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League on the 16th of January.

The Red Devils were far from their best during their matchup at Old Trafford. Trailing for most of the game after Manuel Ugarte netted an own goal in the first half, United were forced to complete a classic comeback.

Victory seemed unlikely, but United secured all three points thanks to a lightning-quick hat-trick from Amad Diallo.

The young Ivorian scored three in quick succession late in the second half to turn the tie on its head.

Amad’s hat-trick was the first at Old Trafford since Cristiano Ronaldo’s during a 3-2 win over Norwich City in 2022.

Amad’s hat-trick sees him join some elite company. The 22-year-old’s 12-minute strike puts him 11th in the list of fastest-ever Premier League hat-tricks.

Amad’s is the second hat-trick to feature on this list from this season’s Premier League. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer sits sixth in the table after he netted three against Brighton in under 10 minutes in September.

United’s number 16 has become only the third player in the league’s history to net three times in a game’s final 10 minutes. Ironically, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who signed Amad in 2021, did it against Nottingham Forest in 1999 with Wayne Rooney achieving the same feat against Hull City in 2010.

Amad is Man United’s fastest-ever hat-trick scorer

Although several players have netted hat-tricks over the years — Dimitar Berbatov even scored five once in a 7-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in 2011 — Amad’s treble was the quickest to be scored by a Red Devil.

He has also become the club’s second youngest player to do it.

Amad certainly appears to be repaying the faith shown in by United after recently agreeing a bumper new contract worth around £120,000-a-week.

And with achievements such as his recent 12-minute hat-trick, fans will love that he won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon.
