Manchester United were unable to bounce back from their FA Cup defeat as they drew 1-1 against Burnley.

Here are five things we learned from the clash at Turf Moor…

Paul Pogba off the mark for the season

Raphael Varane thought he had given the Reds the lead and scored his first goal for the club via a Bruno Fernandes cross.

But the former Real Madrid man’s header was chalked off by Mike Dean, following a VAR check, due to Harry Maguire being in an offside position and interfering with play.

However, it was only six minutes later and Varane’s compatriot Paul Pogba broke the deadlock.

Following some good play involving Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw’s perfectly-weighted cutback was smashed into the top corner by Pogba.

It was United number six’s first Premier League goal in 13 months and his first strike for the Red Devils since scoring in the 6-2 win against Roma in April.

The World Cup winner was making his first top-flight appearance since being sent off against Liverpool in October.

David de Gea concedes at Turf Moor for first time

United’s number one came into the clash in East Lancashire not conceding in his previous six meetings at Turf Moor.

By United’s standards this season, de Gea was having an extremely quiet game and wasn’t called into action at all in the first half.

But Jay Rodriguez scored with Sean Dyche’s side’s first effort on goal. On a skiddy pitch, the Spaniard produced a fine save to get down low and deny Wout Weghorst’s long-range strike.

United punished for missing chances yet agin

Similar to our heart-breaking penalty shootout defeat against Middlesbrough, the Red Devils could have been out of sight against the Clarets in the first half.

As well as Varane’s disallowed goal, an own goal from Burnley was also ruled out as Pogba was adjudged to have fouled Erik Pieters.

Edinson Cavani had a great chance to score from a couple of yards out but Nick Pope pulled off a miraculous save.

As refreshing as it is to see us create a wealth of chances, we desperately need to start being clinical in front of goal.

United drop out of the top four

A win tonight would have taken United six points behind third place Chelsea with a game in hand.

However, after Rangnick’s side failed to win in East Lancashire and West Ham beat Watford 1-0, United dropped out of the top four.

United cannot afford to be dropping points when the chasing pack have games in hand.

When we’re in the ascendancy in games we need to be capitalising.

Sancho building momentum

After scoring his first goal at Old Trafford, Sancho clearly had a spring in his step against Sean Dyche’s side.

Every time he got on the ball, the former Borussia Dortmund man was running at the Burnley defence.

The former Borussia Dortmund also looks to be developing a positive understanding with Luke Shaw.

United’s number 25 is getting better and better and looks to have finally hit lift off on his Manchester United career.
