There is nobody more deserving of a contract extension at Manchester United than Kobbie Mainoo this summer.
The 19-year-old announced himself in spectacular fashion last season with a remarkable breakthrough season at Old Trafford.
By the end of the last campaign, Kobbie Mainoo was easily one of the first names etched on Erik ten Hag’s teamsheet.
Mainoo is set to play a key role again this season and he could have a new midfield partner alongside him as Manchester United push to sign Manuel Ugarte.
United opened talks with Mainoo over a new contract before the start of Euro 2024 with the club eager to tie the exciting teenager down to a long-term deal.
But the deal is yet to be announced and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United have now put contract talks on hold.

Fabrizio Romano update on Kobbie Mainoo contract talks
Securing Mainoo’s future at Old Trafford is just as important as any transfer deal the club could complete this summer.
Bruno Fernandes signed a new contract with United this summer already, and Mainoo is also set to be rewarded with a bumper deal after cementing his spot in the first team.
However, Romano has told United fans that talks have been put on hold by the club.
“Man United have been working on Mainoo’s new deal for months, some talks already took place, but now all their energy is being focused on the final eight days of the summer transfer window,” Romano said via CaughtOffside.
“Then they will resume talks for Mainoo, who is considered a key part of the project.”
No stress about Kobbie Mainoo’s contract
Don’t sound the alarms, United delaying Mainoo’s contract talks is nothing to worry about.
Now in the business end of the transfer window, United are simply laser-focused on weighing up any late additions to Ten Hag’s squad.
Once the window closes, talks over Mainoo’s future can continue and contract terms can be finalised. United’s new-look transfer team has impressed this summer and there is no chance they will mess up contract talks for one of the club’s most valuable assets.
