This is unlikely to be frenetic deadline day at Manchester United like some recent previous ones. A particularly busy deadline in 2020 saw the club strike deals for Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Amad, and Facundo Pellistri in one day.
Expect a more low key affair today (January 31), but it won’t be completely quiet.
There are likely to be a few outgoings, and also expect a flurry of speculation over incoming deals.
Here is a look at what lies in store for the day ahead at Old Trafford…
Outgoing deals
Donny van de Beek is poised to seal a loan move to Everton. The Athletic report the Dutchman has chosen to move to the Toffees after rejecting an approach from Crystal Palace.
The loan move is all agreed pending final confirmation and announcement.
Phil Jones could also make a surprise departure from United on loan. Foot Mercato reported a deal had been agreed until the end of the season, although there is no confirmation yet from either club.
A report in the last few hours from GirondInfo suggests the loan deal for Jones is at risk of falling through, which Fabrizio Romano has backed up. Don’t rule out another twist, or another club coming in for him before the deadline.
Jesse Lingard‘s future remains unclear. Newcastle have been negotiating over a loan move all month. It’s probable he will leave, one way or another, and other clubs could yet make a move.
Dean Henderson also has a chance to leave. The Mail report a loan move to Newcastle is possible.
Under-23s forward D’Mani Mellor could make a move to Crawley Town on loan. Sky Sports reported on Friday that the youngster just needs to complete a medical before the paperwork is finalised.
It’s possible there will be one or two more academy players heading out on loan. Noam Emeran is a name to keep an eye on.
Possible recall
Amid United’s sudden need for a winger, it’s possible United decide to invoke the recall clause in Facundo Pellistri‘s loan at Alaves. He has not been playing much at the Spanish club, and is on international duty at present.
It’s also a long shot, but James Garner returning from loan to bolster the midfielder should be a move United consider.
Incoming deals
We would love to see United sign a midfielder. Amid all the negativity right now, this is United’s weakest position and one which has needed addressing all month.
Boubacar Kamara is the simplest deal to do. The Marseille ace’s contract runs out at the end of the season and he could be snapped up on the cheap. But having left it so late, United probably won’t make a move now.
Expect to see plenty of links to Ousmane Dembele. Barcelona are desperate to get rid of the winger, newspaper Sport report, with a move to the Premier League expected.
Even with a sudden need for a winger, this would not necessarily be a smart move. But it would also be typical United to sign an injury prone winger as a panic move, when a midfielder is far more necessary.
