Manchester United have endured a difficult end to 2024, although inconsistency has plagued the team from start to finish.
We won’t pretend to be unhappy to see the back of 2024. And while 2025 begins with two tough games away at Liverpool and Arsenal, there’s hope that next year cannot be worse than this one.
That’s not to take away from United’s FA Cup win – but this was a year of more lows than highs, and picking out a best player from the calendar year is a tricky task.
When quizzed on MUTV, former United defender Wes Brown however, was in no doubt. He named Amad as his standout choice.

Amad’s strong year
Amad has become a key starter for Manchester United this season, impressing during pre-season, and growing into his first team role.
His standout moment came early in the year a dramatic winner against Liverpool, and he also scored a winner against City in December. Any player who does both of those in the same year, is clearly doing something right.
Speaking to MUTV, Wes Brown explained his choice: “Amad in general, I think he’s been exceptional.”
He added that Amad plays with “the sort of commitment you want when you are a fan watching the games”.
Brown also added that Amad’s goal against Liverpool was his choice for the best goal of the year, due to it’s magnitude.
Amad’s 2024 did not start well
Despite Amad’s strong 2024, a year of progression, it did not start the way he wanted it to. After making his first appearance of 2023/24 on New Year’s Eve, he expected to get more chances, but Erik ten Hag was reluctant.
When a potential starting opportunity came his way in a home league game with Fulham, Ten Hag elected to pick Omari Forson instead.
Amad kept going, and finished the season strongly, jolted by winner against Liverpool, and he has carried that over into the 2024/25 season.
As the year ends, Amad risks being dragged down by the mediocrity around him, and he needs a little help from his teammates – but as we head into 2025, we hope for another strong year of progress from the young playmaker.
