Manchester United defender Wes Brown has to be one of the most underrated defenders to play for the Red Devils.

Wes Brown broke through into the Manchester United first team during the late 1990s and the English defender featured on the bench during the 1999 treble victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

Throughout the treble-winning campaign, Brown made 21 appearances for the Red Devils and started games against Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage.

Wes Brown was born on the 13th of October 1979 in Longsight, Manchester. Brown was a United academy graduate.

Wes Brown is 6 foot 1 inches tall and the defender could play at centre-back and right-back for the Red Devils.

How many trophies did Wes Brown win at Manchester United?

During Brown’s time at Old Trafford, the English defender won two UEFA Champions League titles at Old Trafford. As well as this, Brown won seven Premier League titles, two FA Cups and three Carabao Cups in what was an illustrious career for the defender.

Throughout his spell in Manchester, Brown would go on to make 232 appearances for the club but he scored on just three occasions.

When did Wes Brown retire?

Unlike former United legends like Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, Brown decided to try his luck away from Old Trafford when the defender moved to Steve Bruce’s Sunderland.

Brown’s five seasons at the Stadium Of Light would rack up 90 appearances for the club but he was hindered by injury. He would then have a short spell at Blackburn Rovers before spending time in India with former coach Rene Meulensteen before retiring in 2018.

Despite there being an American actor with the same name as the former United defender, Brown has not followed in the footsteps of Eric Cantona by venturing into the world of acting since his retirement.

In April 2023, Brown was declared bankrupt with HMRC filing a bankruptcy petition against the former Red Devils defender, who earned £50,000 a week at Old Trafford, on February 27, 2023.

During his time in Manchester, Brown won the Jimmy Murphy (Young Player of the Year) Award on two occasions.

Brown is only the second player to win that award twice, the other being Ryan Giggs.
