BBC Sport pundit Troy Deeney included Aaron Wan-Bissaka in his Premier League Team of the Week after the former Manchester United star’s recent performance for West Ham.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s spell at Old Trafford came to an end last summer and West Ham snapped up the 27-year-old right-back in a £15m deal from Manchester United.

The former United defender arrived at the Red Devils under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019 as part of a stunning £50m move from Crystal Palace.

Wan-Bissaka made 190 appearances for United and the West Ham star lifted both the League Cup and the FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford.

The full-back had been a regular starter under former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but he was later forced to play second fiddle under Erik ten Hag.

Wan-Bissaka’s first-team minutes were limited last season after Diogo Dalot established himself as the first-choice pick under ex-United boss Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag’s desire to bring former Ajax star Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford last summer from Bayern Munich all but sealed Wan-Bissaka’s exit from United.

Deeney on Wan-Bissaka at West Ham

Aaron Wan-Bissaka started and played the full 90 minutes against Arsenal on Saturday, with the Hammers picking up a shock 1-0 win at the Emirates.

Troy Deeney was impressed with the ex-Manchester United player’s display against the 10-man Gunners and said Wan-Bissaka was back to his “best defensively.”

The 36-year-old former Watford striker put Wan-Bissaka in his BBC Sport Team of the Week and claimed that the defender has found his “confidence” again.

“He’s been excellent since he left Manchester United, found his feet and got his confidence back,” Deeney said in his BBC Sport column.

“Did a really good job against Arsenal, looked like he was back to his best defensively and offered a bit going forward as well – but defensively he was solid.”

West Ham star Wan-Bissaka post-Man Utd

Wan-Bissaka inked a seven-year deal with the Hammers and the ex-Crystal Palace ace returned to London in a bid to secure more regular first-team opportunities.

The former United right-back has often been criticised for his lack of creative attacking input as a full-back option.

However, Wan-Bissaka has received a lot of praise for his impressive defending qualities and excelled in one-on-one encounters with his opponents.

The ex-United man has made 27 appearances across all competitions for West Ham and netted twice and registered two assists since his move to the London Stadium.
