Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho appeared unfazed and showed his elite mentality when he was asked the toughest question about his legendary career.

Mourinho, who is currently in charge of Roma, is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time and enjoyed incredible success both in England and abroad.

The 60-year-old Portuguese manager became a cult hero during his two separate spells at Chelsea and captured plenty of silverware during his time at the Blues.

During his legendary time at Stamford Bridge, former Chelsea head coach Mourinho lifted three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four League Cups.

The ‘Special One’ also captured a La Liga title and Copa del Rey with Real Madrid, while another major feat for Mourinho was his continental treble with Inter Milan.

Mourinho saw immediate success during his spell in charge at Old Trafford, with the ex-United boss lifting an EFL Cup and a Europa League in his debut United season.

But the ex-Madrid and Chelsea manager fell short of breaking United’s long-running Premier League trophy drought, with Mourinho’s men finishing second in 2018.

Mourinho’s status as the ‘Special One

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mourinho opened up about his time at United and how one player’s agent once accused him of bullying over a decision he made.

The Roma boss also spoke about one figure at Old Trafford and called him an “amazing person,” saying he wished he had him by his side when he was at United.

During the chat with John Obi Mikel and his co-host, Mourinho expressed his love for United and the heartwarming reception he received on his return to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is famously known for his ‘Special One’ nickname after he first arrived at Chelsea in 2004 after his successful spell with Portuguese side Porto.

“Please don’t call me arrogant, but I’m European champion and I think I’m a special one,” he told the British press at his Chelsea press conference.

Mourinho’s toughest question to date

Mourinho has come under criticism at times after his peak run as a manager and questions have been asked if the ‘Special One’ is still, well, special now.

The former United manager’s ill-fated spell at Tottenham after his departure from Old Trafford ended without any major silverware and his dismissal in 2021.

However, Mourinho bounced back with Roma and has enjoyed success with the Serie A outfit, including leading his side to the Europa Conference League title.

But Mourinho hasn’t lost his touch even now and didn’t hesitate when asked a tough question about his status as the ‘Special One’ or if that time has now passed.

When asked if he is still the ‘Special One,’ Mourinho immediately responded: “The screws are still a bit loose sometimes.

“Yes, I am the same. I am the same. I enjoy the same, I love to win the same, I hate to lose the same, but, of course, experience brings you into a different perspective.

“Everything becomes kind of deja vu for you, you connect things, ‘Oh, this happens with me,’ before everything looks like deja vu, but the feeling of working with young guys, the feeling of working with new John Obis.

“In Roma, in three years, 15 debuts from kids. This makes me… it’s an extra feeling and the team is a good team; we have our ambitions.

“Of course, there are clubs with more potential than we have, but you know, now we are fourth and fourth here means a lot.

“It means possible qualification for [the] Champions League, we have lots of good players, we have good kids coming, we fight and we fight and we enjoy.”
