Jose Mourinho was told ‘you are never going to do it’ with players at Man Utd… 8 years later, they’re still there

Jose Mourinho is still the most successful manager of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at Manchester United.

The ‘Special One’ gave Manchester United fans some of their happiest memories in recent times. He triumphed in the Europa League, emerged victorious in the Carabao Cup and brought in exciting players such as Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, it just wasn’t meant to be for him. He was sacked in December 2018, following a poor start to the Premier League campaign which concluded in a 3-1 loss at Anfield against Liverpool.

But what Jose always fighting an uphill battle at Manchester United?

Jose Mourinho on Manchester United

Jose Mourinho spoke on The Obi One Podcast about his time at Manchester United and revealed that even after two months he was told it was going to be tough. He then revealed some players and staff are still around Old Trafford.

Mourinho said: “There are still in that club, people and when I say people I say some players but also some other people that are not players, that are still there.

“When I was told after two months with these people… you are never going to do it. And they are still there.”

Quite telling from Mourinho. If this was after two months of his arrival, this would have been way back in 2016. This means that eight years down the line – these figures remain.

It will never be clear who Mourinho was talking about, but it can be whittled down by the powers of deduction, especially with the players.

Jose Mourinho still loves Manchester United

Mourinho went on to admit that despite the sacking, he still loves Manchester United and doesn’t regret his tenure at Old Trafford.

“I don’t have regrets, Man United fans know I gave everything and I love the club. I went there once with Sky, I was in the box and the whole stadium turned to me applauding and singing for me.

“If it happens at Inter, Madrid, Porto or Chelsea, you say to yourself that it’s because we won everything, but at Man United, a club with such a history, you manage to the conclusion that they know I gave everything I could.”

Mourinho has no regrets upon leaving Manchester United, and I’m sure they don’t have any employing him. He will always be remembered as a prominent managerial figure in the club’s history.
