One of the many injury blows Manchester United faced last weekend was the absence of Kobbie Mainoo.
After such an incredible breakout year for Manchester United, this season has been a lot tougher for Kobbie Mainoo.
The Carrington talent made his debut last season, and Mainoo was an immediate superstar for United upon his promotion from the academy, however, at the age of just 19, he was always going to have hot and cold periods as he developed.
For Mainoo, this season has seen some injury struggles combined with disappointing performances meaning that he went from Erik ten Hag’s undroppable, to become Ruben Amorim’s conundrum to solve.
Mainoo has struggled to find his best position in Amorim’s team and due to that minutes have been limited. However, this is not a bad thing considering the sheer amount of football Mainoo played last season.
| Mainoo positions under Amorim | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Striker | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Attacking midfield | 2 | 1 | 1 |
| Left-wing | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Defensive midfield | 10 | 0 | 0 |
However, as much as he wasn’t being overused, last weekend saw Mainoo handed an injury blow.

Kobbie Mainoo return from injury scheduled
Last week, it emerged that Mainoo was one of several injured United players who were set to miss out against Tottenham.
The timescale of his injury was vague, however, earlier this week it was confirmed that Mainoo’s injury was to keep him out for as many as six weeks which is not as long as other injured players like Lisandro Martinez.
Now, journalist Mike McGrath has reported that Mainoo is targeting a return to action for United following next month’s international break.
This rules him out of Thomas Tuchel’s opening games as the England manager – but will mean he returns at a pivotal time for Ruben Amorim.
With Amad Diallo missing for the rest of the season, Mainoo could become very important in the latter games this season, which makes it important that he gets fit and in top shape for United.
The games will Kobbie Mainoo miss for Manchester United
The injury crisis could not have come at a worse time for United, as it likely derailed the work Amorim was doing in training last week, which has coincided with Chido Obi’s promotion for United.
However, if Mainoo is to return in one month, the 19-year-old will likely only miss seven games in all competitions.

So Mainoo will miss Everton away, Ipswich at home, Fulham in the FA Cup, Arsenal at home and also Leicester away.
However, he will also miss the two legs of the Europa League round of 16 which will see United face either Real Sociedad or AZ Alkmaar on the 6th and 13th of March.
If United manage to come through this period without being knocked out of the cups, the return of Mainoo could be a huge boost. If not, the season might already be over!
