Manchester United were back on the grass on Tuesday as pre-season training began to heat up, and Erik ten Hag has been giving special attention to one player.

Pre-season is well underway and already we’re less than a week away from the first game of the tour 2024 against Rosenborg in Norway.

Manchester United fans will be eager to see several players in action this summer and there are plenty who have points to prove this summer after a largely underwhelming 2023/24 season.

Erik ten Hag will currently be running the rule over his squad, and he’s been spotted in one-on-one conversation with a player who needs to improve this season.

Ten Hag spotted having one-on-one talks with Mason Mount

As Manchester United returned to training this week, several players have a massive couple of months coming up and one of these is Mason Mount.

The £55m player arrived last summer but hasn’t made good on his transfer fee yet after a season packed with injury problems. This makes this preseason and the beginning of this next season pivotal in Mount coming good at United.

With this in mind, it’s been interesting to see Mount and Ten Hag having a one-on-one conversation during training on Tuesday.

This photo of Mount and the boss in conversation and clearly smiling while doing so is hopefully a sign of things to come, and Mount can give Ten Hag what he wanted upon signing him in 2023.

With Bruno Fernandes on holiday, the opening few weeks of preseason gives Mount the chance to recapture some form and show Ten Hag he’s a viable option at the number 10 position. It’s also the perfect chance for Mount to prove Paul Scholes wrong.

Mason Mount has to improve

United took Mount from Chelsea, beating Arsenal and Liverpool to the signing and handed him the famous and historic No.7 shirt which was a huge statement.

A statement which he simply needs to live up to, yet hasn’t come close so far. Although it’s unfair to single him out as he did suffer from injury woes.

This coming season is massive for Mount considering how ruthless Ineos have already shown themselves to be and therefore he needs to get off to the best possible start.

At £250k-a-week, if he fails this coming season he likely won’t last too much longer at the club. So hopefully he is a player filled with renewed confidence and can finally repay Ten Hag’s faith in him.
