Erik ten Hag says Manchester United have signed one of ‘European football’s big assets’ this transfer window

Manchester United’s transfer window has gone better than expected so far with the new ownership structure making an instant impact.

Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui have been added to the Man United squad with a defensive midfielder also on the agenda.

Combine that with some necessary outgoings, and this is arguably the best window the club has had post-Sir Alex Ferguson.

For Erik ten Hag, the crown jewel of this window is one player who he considers one of the “big assets in European football”.

Erik ten Hag on summer signing

The role of Erik ten Hag in the transfer window has been streamlined by the new regime as he is now part of the larger structure instead of being the structure itself.

However, that doesn’t mean players are arriving without his agreement as he is the one tasked with choosing the team at the end of the day.

As per a recent interview with SUPERSPORT, it looks like one of the summer signings already has a fan in him as he called him one of the “big assets in European football”.

Ten Hag expanded upon signing Leny Yoro, whose start at United has been halted by injury and propped up his qualities.

He said: “We are so happy we could sign him. He’s one of the big assets in European football. We managed to bring him in and we’re so pleased he’s here.

“Leny knows he has to progress a lot and we know we have to progress and support him but we have the skills in our team to help him achieve his high ambition. The potential is absolutely there and we’re sure he can help us win games and trophies. That’s what United stands for.”

Leny Yoro’s breakthrough is ‘when’, not ‘if’

Starting his career at a new club at the age of just 18 with a three-month layoff is not the ideal circumstance for Yoro.

However, his talent is not in question, something he displayed already in two cameos with United in pre-season.

Therefore, the aim for the club should be to ease him back into action which they can afford to do now that Matthijs de Ligt is signed.

Not only will Yoro have a crucial part to play when the season enters its business end, but he now has multiple world-class defenders to learn from as well.

As Ten Hag says, Yoro was a coveted player in this window, and United beat competition from multiple teams to get their hands on him.

His talent makes it certain that his breakthrough is a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’, it’s just been delayed due to injury but everyone at the club believes in him.
