Erik ten Hag has detailed the key difference between the Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford fallouts.

This season has been one to forget for Manchester United fans and I’m sure Erik ten Hag would be keen on forgetting the events of the past couple of months too.

Jadon Sancho was exiled from the first team squad back in September due to delivering a public statement in the wake of the Dutchman’s comments about his work ethic in training.

As a result, United fans did not see Sancho for a couple of months and the Englishman completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund earlier this month and it looks unlikely that he will feature at Old Trafford again.

Ten Hag explains Sancho and Rashford difference

Speaking ahead of United’s game against Wolves, in the embargoed section of his press conference, the Dutchman was asked about the differing approaches to the two cases.

Sancho was never seen in the squad again but it has now been confirmed that after his disciplinary issue, Marcus Rashford will be back in the squad for the game at Molineux.

When asked about the difference between the two cases, as per The Mirror, the Dutchman said: “We can sort out everything internally (with Rashford). Jadon chose to go public.”

Despite Sancho going public, this isn’t entirely true as the Dutchman did reveal to the media first about the Englishman’s poor standards in training which led to the bite back from the 23-year-old.

It’s unclear what the future holds for Sancho, and indeed Ten Hag, but fans cannot argue that the Dutchman dealt with the Sancho situation the right way.

Ten Hag and discipline

Since moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, it’s fair to say the Dutchman has been a big stickler for discipline and for his players to follow these rules.

If you don’t follow his commands then you lose his trust but even though Rashford’s disciplinary issues are concerning, he saw the errors in his way and apologised.

As for Sancho, the Englishman refused to apologise which led to this stand-off between player and manager before he eventually left this month.
