Eric Cantona sends scathing response to Ineos’ Sir Alex Ferguson contract decision, he makes his view clear

On Tuesday it was announced Manchester United were removing Sir Alex Ferguson from his role at the club.

Ever since Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe took charge at Old Trafford, cost-cutting has been the order of the day, with the most controversial step yet just being announced.

Sir Jim divided opinions by cutting 250 jobs earlier this year after a review of the club’s operations showed that there were too many staff at Manchester United.

This culling of staff member’s jobs is said to have actually cost United £10m – with the likes of John Murtough a name to be axed.

Now, it seems nobody is safe with Sir Alex Ferguson having his deal slashed.

Eric Cantona reacts as Sir Alex Ferguson sees Ineos slash contract

On Tuesday it emerged that United legend and most successful manager Sir Alex has also had his contract terminated.

The Scotsman was paid £2.16m per year for his services to the club as a global ambassador – but this is no longer the case and United fans are divided.

The decision by Ineos makes sense from a financial standpoint, but on the other hand, after doing so much for the club, it’s hard to justify cutting his contract.

Eric Cantona has now taken to Instagram with a scathing and passionate response in support of his former manager.

“Sir Alex Ferguson should be able to do anything he wants at the club until the day he dies. Such a lack of respect. It’s totally scandalous. Sir Alex Ferguson will be my boss forever! And I throw them all in a big bag of ____!”

This is as honest a verdict as they come, and likely the sentiment will be shared by numerous United fans.

On the other hand, it is just another example of Ineos being ruthless – as Rio Ferdinand has argued, the decision shows absolutely nobody is safe.

Manchester United decision has both positives and negatives

This decision from Ineos is a bold one and will absolutely create division and lead to scrutiny in the event that things don’t pan out well.

However, it is a call we struggle to be too critical of when taking into account the 250 staff members who lost their jobs – £2.16m a year for an ambassador role is hard to justify.

Sir Alex is a club legend and no fan will be happy to see this happen, but when taking everything into account, it is logical.

Along with this the decision was supposedly reached amicably, with Sir Alex caring about the club and also being close with Sir Jim, there is every chance he was on board with the call.

The decision however will upset many people, especially those who have worked with Sir Alex and have a close relationship with him – but for the club, it is probably the right call.
