Elanga and Maguire react to Brandon Williams winning Norwich's POTM

Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams has won Norwich City’s player of the month award for January.

The full-back featured in all four of the Canaries’ matches across the Premier League and FA Cup during the first month of 2022.

Alongside his crunching tackles and tireless running, the 21-year-old got his first assist for Dean Smith’s side with a galloping lung-busting run forward, to set up striker Adam Idah in Norwich’s 2-1 win at Carrow Road against Everton.

After losing six consecutive Premier League games, Smith’s side backed up their win against the Toffees with a comprehensive 3-0 win against relegation rivals Watford, which resulted in Claudio Ranieri being sacked.

Reacting to winning the award, Williams told the club’s official website: “It feels really good for the month that we’ve had. We had a lot of top performances from individuals and more importantly we got some results as a team, but this is a proud moment.

“Personally, I really put my foot down, got comfortable and settled in. Now I’m ready to go for the next part of the season.

“The goal against Everton was something to remember and when you think about it, it makes you want more. It was a good game, we got the result, and I was happy to assist Adam for his first goal.

“It’s important that I get those numbers up and I want to keep going to hopefully have more of these moments.”

With 14 Premier League starts to his name at Norwich, the season-long loan move is proving to be a success for the England under-21 international.

Despite playing in a side that is fighting to stave off relegation instead of being part of a squad which has a Champions League last-16 first leg clash later this month, Williams is relishing the challenge.

Williams added: “It’s different in regards to where we are in the table but it’s a challenge for me and I’m willing to take it on.”

The Manchester United academy graduate posted a picture of him holding the award on Instagram, which drew praise from current and former Manchester United teammates.

Brandon Williams will be hoping to help the Canaries reach the FA Cup fifth-round when they travel to Wolves later today.
