Dwight Yorke has urged Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim to keep two important first-team Red Devils players as part of his plans at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim has overseen a mixed start to life as Manchester United manager after he arrived from Sporting CP in the November international break.
Erik ten Hag was sacked in late October and United triggered the £9.25m release clause in Amorim’s contract at Sporting CP in November.
Ruud van Nistelrooy steered the ship for United during a four-match interim managerial spell before Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford.
Amorim has faced an uphill battle at United after the Red Devils’ poor start to the Premier League season under Erik ten Hag.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager has managed four wins from his opening eight matches in charge of the Red Devils across all competitions.
Amorim has seen both the highs and lows at United so far, including the Red Devils’ sensational 2-1 win over Manchester City in the derby last week.
However, the former Sporting CP boss’ hopes of major silverware took an early hit with United’s Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Tottenham on Thursday evening.

Yorke singles out two Man Utd stars
Speaking to Sports Lens, Dwight Yorke insisted that Amad Diallo is a “player for the future” and someone who Ruben Amorim should “build around.”
Amad Diallo has arguably been Manchester United’s standout performer in the 2024-25 campaign and has impressed with his consistency on the pitch.
The 22-year-old Ivorian attacker has shown his incredible versatility for United under Amorim, including playing in both an attacking role and as a wing-back.
“I would think Amad would be one now,” Yorke said.
“I think he will be the first one that stands out and the first name that Amorim can put on his team. He’s a player for the future and he’s a player to build around.”
Yorke added that United captain Bruno Fernandes is “still one of the better” players at the Red Devils and his “quality” on the pitch can’t be ‘ignored.’
Fernandes retained the United captaincy under fellow Portuguese Amorim and has arguably been the Red Devils’ best signing in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Yorke believes that the 30-year-old Portugal midfielder has “something” to offer to United, but he claimed that the team can’t be built around him due to his age.
“Bruno Fernandes, he’s still one of the better players, even though he huffs and puffs,” he continued.
“He does his thing, but you can’t ignore his quality. I think he can still give United something, but he’s just turned thirty, so you can’t build around him for the next five years.”
Yorke on what is missing for Amorim
United legend Yorke made his feelings clear that Amorim will need a “brilliant central midfielder” who can become the engine of his Red Devils team.
“Amorim can’t hang his hat on Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund. I used to say that he could hang his hat on [Marcus] Rashford, but he can’t do that anymore,” he explained.
“United are missing a brilliant central midfielder who can run a game for you and get you out of trouble when you’re under the kosh.
“I’m struggling to give you three names. There’s a lot of dead wood in that place; I have to be honest with you.
“I don’t think there are three players that he can build around, I can only give you Amad and Fernandes.”
