Manchester United are working towards the appointment of Erik ten Hag at the end of the season. The Mail report the agreement is not quite struck yet.

The Red Devils job is a dream opportunity, but it is far from an easy take. The Dutchman is said to also harbour ambitions for another high profile job.

Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen told De Telegraaf ‘s Kick-Off Football podcast that his ideal job is to manage Bayern Munich, and that he could be prepared to wait for it.

Julian Nagelsmann is the current Bayern manager, having been appointed just last summer, his side sit top of the league.

United must totally convince Ten Hag

Driessen explained: “I know that Ten Hag would love to become head coach of Bayern Munich one day. That is not possible next summer, but maybe in two or three years.

“If he now goes to Manchester United and it fails there, just like it happened with the last six, seven trainers, then you think: why will Erik ten Hag succeed? If you fail you will never come to Bayern again.

“Bayern will never come to you if you fail at Manchester United.

He added that joining another German club was a better way to set him up for the Bayern job in the future.

Ten Hag previously managed Bayern’s second team under Pep Guardiola, before managing Utrecht, and then Ajax.

There have been rumours linking Ten Hag with unspecified roles in Germany, with the Mirror reporting there are Bundesliga sides interested.

While AD.nl claim it is Ralf Rangnick’s former club RB Leipzig who are showing interest in Ten Hag, this was dismissed by German journalist Patrick Berger.

The Dutchman seemingly has three options, which include, staying at Ajax, taking the United job, or tackling a new adventure in German football which could lead him to Bayern in the future.

United appear in pole position for now, but the longer negotiations take, the bigger risk there is that doubts will creep in.

For United’s board to miss out at this late stage would be unforgivable.
