Double fitness boost for Ruben Amorim as key Man United duo return to training, update on Leny Yoro

Ruben Amorim held training at Carrington on Wednesday ahead of his first home match as Manchester United head coach.

The new Manchester United head coach will take to the Old Trafford dugout for the first time on Thursday night when his side faces Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.

Ruben Amorim cut a frustrated figure during United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon but he has now had a couple more training sessions with a full squad to get to know his players.

Changes are expected to the lineup on Thursday evening after Amorim pinpointed problems in United’s performance at Portman Road.

One of Ruben Amorim’s biggest challenges has been the shortage of centre-backs available for selection, with Noussair Mazraoui starring in defence against Ipswich.

Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez return to training

Amorim had little choice but to start Mazraoui alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans in a back three on Sunday because Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof were all sidelined with injury.

However, he has been handed a major fitness boost ahead of Thursday with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez both returning to training on Wednesday.

As reported by Samuel Luckhurst, Maguire and Martinez were both welcomed back to training by the United squad.

It doesn’t necessarily mean either are ready to feature for United against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday but they could make their return to the side against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

The reason why Leny Yoro was absent from training

Amorim will be pleased to welcome back Maguire and Martinez, but he will also be hoping to have Leny Yoro available shortly after he recovered from a fractured metatarsal.

Yoro has been training with Amorim since his arrival and some expected the 19-year-old to feature against Ipswich on the weekend but he wasn’t quite ready to return.

Unfortunately, Yoro was absent from training on Wednesday too as he continues his recovery plan. United have since confirmed that Evans was also not spotted in the training session.

Thankfully when it comes to Yoro, his absence was pre-planned and there has been no fresh injury blow for United’s £52m summer signing.

Yoro has been tipped to shine under Amorim and hopefully he can also feature in Sunday’s squad against Everton.
