Donny van de Beek’s exit from Manchester United is edging closer to becoming official.

After a torrid four years at Manchester United, Donny van de Beek could not get away quickly enough.

Van de Beek penned an emotional goodbye message to Manchester United fans earlier, before his transfer to Girona had been made official.

Steps are ongoing to ensure Van de Beek is quickly confirmed as a Girona player.

Donny van de Beek set to leave Manchester United

Spanish newspaper AS reports Donny van de Beek has spent the past few hours undergoing a medical at Girona’s facilities. No hitches are expected.

Girona want the deal completed quickly, as they intend for him to take part in the club’s next training session.

It is claimed that within the next 24 hours he will signed his contract as a Girona player.

Van de Beek is expected to sign a four-year deal at Girona taking him up until June 2028.

It is even claimed Girona have been ‘following him closely for seasons’ – and despite this they are very happy to do a deal.

Van de Beek is said to be excited to have the opportunity to play Champions League football with Girona.

Girona’s Van de Beek gamble

Girona are paying just £500,000 to sign Van de Beek initially. The rest of the deal is made up of add-on incentives.

AS claim the first £5 million are easy to achieve add-ons. A further £10 million is described as ‘more complicated’.

But if Van de Beek works out as a success, Girona will have no trouble paying up. The clauses are designed as ‘win win’.

The Dutchman is in need of a fresh start. Manchester United have made a huge loss, and gained little to nothing in sporting terms from the former Netherlands international.

To say now is the right time to move on would be incorrect. That was probably two seasons ago. But at least, this is not hanging over the club all summer. Ineos have acted smartly to find a deal to get Van de Beek off the wage bill, and avoid him playing a pointless part in pre-season.
