Donny van de Beek was a late substitute for Manchester United against Atalanta.
With just minutes to go, Van de Beek played a part in the move leading up to United’s equaliser.
He almost netted an injury time winner too, having a late shot blocked.
After the game Van de Beek had a message to send to fans which reflected both the team’s comeback and his personal situation.
This was the first match Van de Beek had played since the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham in September.
The sparing use of the Dutchman has been infuriating at times from the outside, and he himself will have been incredibly frustrated.
Helping to make an impact late on here will help him as he looks to kick on.
Fernandes and Matic react to result
Bruno Fernandes provided the assist for United’s first goal, before being substituted for Van de Beek late on.
Nemanja Matic was a substitute for Paul Pogba earlier in the second half.
Both players sent messages after the game reflecting on United’s draw. Neither were completely satisfied with the result.
A draw of course is better than a defeat, and United still occupy one of the top two places in the group.
Two matches are remaining, and if we have learned anything from the first four games, it is that they won’t be straightforward.
