Manchester United youngster D’Mani Mellor would have probably been lining up for Crawley Town today if it wasn’t for a “balls-up” with the loan paperwork.

The 21-year-old looked set to be plying his trade in League Two for the second time this season, following his loan spell at Salford City earlier in the campaign.

Sky Sports reported that Mellor was poised to complete a move to Crawley for the remainder of the season, during the last few days of the January transfer window.

However, Crawley Town boss John Yems was left ‘very, very, very disappointed’ after he confirmed the loan deal for Mellor wasn’t going to go through.

Speaking at his side’s press conference, Yems said: “We had some disappointing news concerning the Manchester United boy, there was a right balls-up with his paperwork from their end and I don’t think that will go through.”

After his move to the Broadfield Stadium failed to materialise, Mellor will finish the season playing for Neil Wood’s under-23s side.

In between his return from Salford and his proposed move to Crawley, Mellor scored two goals against Brighton’s under-23s.

Playing at the Leigh Sports Village today, Mellor opened the scoring following an exquisite perfectly-timed through ball by Shola Shoretire.

After the young Hammers drew level, Mellor, who was once again captaining the under-23s, reclaimed United’s lead on the hour mark with a first time left-footed effort which found the bottom corner.

D’Mani Mellor’s performance drew the attention of his former Manchester United academy teammate Angel Gomes, who claimed he was “very under-appreciated”.

Connor Stanley who was making his first appearance of the season ensured United claimed all three points by adding a third goal in the 88th minute.

It was Stanley’s first goal at academy level for United. He scored one goal and made three assists from 27 games during his loan spell at Atalanta United 2 last season.

United are fifth in Premier League 2, eight points behind the leaders Manchester City.
