Manchester United go into next season as the proper beginning of the Michael Carrick era, and Diogo Dalot reckons that he has a big advantage.

It was only last week that Manchester United announced Michael Carrick as the permanent head coach of the club to head into the 2026/27 campaign.

Carrick put in title-winning form from January to May, and as a result, United considers winning the Premier League an attainable target for next season.

Now, Diogo Dalot has explained exactly why Carrick is the perfect manager to lead United into the next era.

What are Michael Carrick’s three biggest priorities this summer to prepare for 2026/27?🤔

Diogo Dalot explains why Michael Carrick has a big benefit at Manchester United

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Caze TV, Dalot has explained why Carrick is the ideal United head coach.

“Of course, we need quality players and attractive football, which for a United fan means playing on the front foot, quick transitions, and believing right up to the last minute that we’re going to win the game.

“Carrick managed to convey that to us through the way he communicated with us and in the meetings we had. His great advantage is that he knows exactly what it’s like to play Leeds away, or at Stamford Bridge. He knows the kind of atmosphere we’ll face; he knows what it’s like to play in the Champions League.

“In my opinion, that brings advantages, because as well as the coach’s theoretical side, he’s been out on the pitch and knows what’s going to happen.

“I think that was his big advantage, as well as already feeling at home, already knowing the people and the place. As well as being a great player, he’s also building a good career as a coach.”

How much do you think Man Utd will spend in this window?

It can be revealed that £243m will already be leaving Old Trafford this summer…

Carrick’s playing career comes through into his management

Before he arrived, Carrick was likened to Carlo Ancelotti for his man management, and that has translated to United, where he has won over the entire squad.

Carrick puts so much confidence into the players simply by being who he is, standing on the sidelines with a completely neutral expression, never getting too high or too low.

Carrick’s composure is among his best traits, and Dalot’s praise proves that not only is he tactically switched on but also has the experience and character to be a great head coach.

Where other United bosses have fallen short is usually not having buy-in from the players, but clearly, Carrick isn’t suffering from this.
